February.

I fell in love with Valentine's Day
long ago
as I proudly carried the box my mother
made
to hold my valentines into my second grade classroom.

Today I am thinking about things that are lovely
and
seem to belong in the month of February
like tiny hearts, flowers,
ribbons and lace.

Things like chocolate, pink nail polish and bubble bath.

my favorite

from my dad to my grandmother

raspberry hearts

grandbabies

I am so glad that after a long, cold, dark January

there is a warm, red day in the middle of February .

  4. What a sweet Valentine Memoir! I love Vintage Valentines!

Hope your bread turns out fine. Just my two cents tho~ it was okay when it came out of the oven but when it cooled off a bit it was much better. That is kind of strange because normally I love hot bread out of the oven. Anyhow, it was good and hope you enjoy it too!

It's almost mid February, but winter is not over at my place. In fact we never had so much snow as today! You are the lucky one. Have a nice weekend. Regula

  15. Hi Dottie,

Your beautiful post today took me back to my own happy childhood memories of school in Canada and the holidays that were celebrated in the classroom. Sadly, in Greece, these things are considered too commercial and the little ones, in my opinion, lose out on the sweet stuff that keep us 'American' folks' memories alive and kicking!

Hope you have a wonderfully whimsical Valentine's day. I WILL have a raspberry heart (okay, or two!) to honour my (North) American roots and traditions!
