When My World Seems....

When my world seems like it is
upside down .
I always go to the Salvation Army thrift shop .

Just saying the word thrift out loud
seems to make my footsteps lighter .

Oh! The things you can see
there
old and vintage
new and shiny
odd and interesting .

I am delighted everywhere I look .

I find vintage hats and lace dresses for sweet Addie the scare-girl in my garden to wear, old tin tubs to plant radishes and lettuce in, crystal wine glasses ( I have to replace mine often as I break them often)
shelves of books, old vinyl record albums and small electrical appliances that my son and I  are fascinated with .

The price is right ,there is no stress and you can stay as long as you like .
The possibilities are endlessly .

Oh! Be still my heart!

Look at the treasure I found last Monday in an unopened box for $8.44 on half price day that someone did not want .

I have had this on my wish list it seems like forever .

As I make my way home after a few hours there
everything
in my world becomes right side up
again  .

What simple pleasure do you enjoy ?

Quiet Nights

I always enjoy the slower days and quiet nights
after
Christmas and before New Years Day .
There is no reason to hurry
all
the decorations are up, the gifts opened
and there are so many leftover cookies to enjoy .

I slow down
and
think about whatsoever is lovely .

Moongazing
The eclipse of the moon was difficult to see from  where I live . It was cloudy and very windy . Sometime the wind would blow the clouds away and I could see the moon . Pure magical, eerie and beautiful at the same time .

I wish I could have seen it like this  .

Beautiful Angel Trumpets blooming in my garden on Christmas Day

I think someone reads my blog
because
everything on my wish list was underneath the tree
on Christmas night .

Dax has reached the very cute and silly age !
Oh my ! How did that happen so fast !

Christmas Evening

At This Moment

Can you guess who the little girl in the picture is ?

                                                        Violets
Dove chocolates with lovely quotes inside the wrappers .
Opening the advent calendar windows .
Goodnight Moon
A friend once told me that our dreams are made
of
ribbons and tiny moments of how we spend our day .

I pray all of your moments are beautiful today
and
your dreams are peaceful .

Eggplants,Turnips And Angels

Oh my! More eggplants .
Many, many more of them
and
it is late December !
I really like eggplant but LOL !
My friends pretend they don't hear me when I ask them if they would like to take some more home with them !
I have made all the usual recipes using eggplants
but
I have not made the Barefoot Contessa's roasted eggplant spread .
I am going to make it as one of our appetizers on Christmas Eve .

Petra also likes to pull up the turnips !
The only way I know to cook turnips is with the greens
but
since I was making vegetable soup I cut it up and put it in the soup .

Please if you have a good eggplant or turnip recipe would you share it with me !

There has been the sweet sound of Christmas carols in my home for about a month .
Dax and Petra have been practicing for their Christmas Musical at the church .
I wanted to take a picture of them singing in the musical
but
I couldn't because there were so many people that came to see their little ones sing ,too .

So I took a picture of them in front of the church's tree the night of the musical .

Oh be still my heart !

Merry Christmas,
Dottie

Right Now

Are you going outside tonight and count the shooting stars ?
Geminid Meteor Shower
December 11-13

Tonight you will find me on the seawall looking up .
The sky is clear, dark and perfect
for
watching the Geminid Meteor Shower over the water .

The weather is mild tonight
but
I have packed a woolly blanket and filled a thermos with coffee and Bailey's !

Star Light, Star Bright,
Peace for all
this
Silent Night .

Christmas

It has been chilly and damp outside
but
so wonderful and warm inside .

I like bright and shiny things on my table and tree
that
give off a soft glow in the evening and at night .

I pray your Christmas will be filled with the gifts of
peace
forgiveness
love
and
hope
that come from knowing Jesus .

I have made my wish list
and
I think
chocolate,a bird feeder
and
paper white bulbs would be so nice
 underneath the tree
on
Christmas night .

Christmas Mandarins

Mele Kalikimaka by Bing Crosby is my favorite Christmas song .

Cold winter nights under the stars .
