Remembering Tasha

Tasha Tudor

When my son was very small we went to a garage sale and I brought a little book . I was drawn to the lovely illustrations . The book was about kitchen gardens
and
it seemed magical to me !

In 1989 Country Home magazine published an article about Tasha Tudor's home, garden and life.
I remembered the little book I had enjoyed for so many years.
It was one of her books and I understood why I liked it so much !
I fell instantly in love with everything about her and her simple lifestyle.
I wanted her goats, bee hives, garden, rosemary tree,
blue china and tin oven and still do.
Most of all I want her simple kind of life.

Today I had a tea in her honor with two of my favorite little people to remember her life.
I read "Becky's Birthday", my favorite book, to them.

Petra's birthday is next week.
I wish I had a stream like the one in the story to float her birthday cake glowing with candles to her
but I don't !
I hope she will remember this lovely story about this special birthday surprise and hide it in her heart as
I did so many years ago.

The little book I found so many years ago.

Tasha Tudor was true to herself and chose to live her beautiful life in a quiet and simple way.

Tis a gift to be simple.

  1. You are creating such beautiful memories and providing a gracious example for your grandchildren. Christine, I believe you admired Tasha Tudor because you are "true to [yourself] and chose to live [your] beautiful life in a quiet and simple way"... and the rest of us learn from you. It is indeed a gift to be simple.

  11. This is a wonderful way to share many good things with the little ones. Things that will become lasting memories. I am so glad you introduced them to Miss Tasha. I am afraid she is lost to many chilren today.
I loved seeing the kids sharing tea.

We just get so use to going to the kitchen and grabbing something and being on our way, so to this day, when my kids are at home, I try to set aside some time when I ask them to join me for hot tea/iced tea, making it a little special with cloth napkins, good china, and little finger sandwiches, and something sweet.

These moments are special gifts that you are giving your grandchildren.

  18. Oh Dottie, I loved Tasha Tudor, too. I have never seen Becky's Birthday but it looks like an enchanting book! For years, and I mean YEARS, I have been looking for the book "Becky's Christmas." Have never found it at tag or estate sales. You did a great job on the tea! Susan

  19. What a delightful event--a tea party to honor Tasha Tudor. I feel a kindred spirit for sure. I adored Tasha Tudor's lifestyle, her gardens, her illustrations. She was such a pure soul. Back in June, I posted about a book I was honored to be part of, that included the gardens of Tasha Tudor. What a highlight that was for me.

I'm so glad you linked up today. This is a perfect Simple Pleasures post. Please come again.

  20. Just want you to know that you gave ME a simple pleasure this morning as I looked at the picture of the three little ones at "tea". My favorite picture is the tea pouring one.

I feel so out of the loop to NOT know (or have known) about Tasha Tudor until blogland recently. Now, I want to know more.
