This week I welcomed a simple and slow season into my life . I have been tired in the evening after the children go home as I adjust to my new schedule for the school year .
On my To Do List I have written " make simple meals...."
Last night I had popcorn for dinner and the night before fresh corn on the cob!!!
It was so wonderful .
My Netflix queue is looking so inviting .
So is the sofa full of soft pillows in the living room filled with the glow of beeswax candles
and soft French music . .
As I have slowed down the most wonderful thing has happened . I can feel God drawing closer.
.
I have some wonderful things planned for the coming weeks like a tea, going to the farmer's market,
planting my fall garden and going to a French restaurant and a movie with a sweet friend
I think it is alright to do nothing and rest after doing it !
What do you think?
I think you are right on!
ReplyDeleteI think you have the right idea.....enjoy!
ReplyDeleteCorn on the cob for supper...yummy....lots of butter!
I struggle with my netflix que....what's in yours????
That sounds wonderful Dottie..
ReplyDeleteAny room for an extra chair? :)
Enjoy this slow season..it sounds so good to me.
:)

I totally agree, too!!! Enjoy....
ReplyDeleteYou and I are on the same page, Dottie! I am going to start putting my computer up during the day starting tomorrow...too much noise in my head all the time. My favorite simple dinner is toast and an egg...I have the little sign even that says "How beautifl it is to do nothing and then rest afterward"...
ReplyDeleteI love your spaces....~sigh~....one day I hope to be able to slow down and be able to fall into some of my special places.....until then....I can dream....and think of even more lovely things :)
ReplyDeleteWe had a relaxing day yesterday...it rained all afternoon and we watched an old B & W movie! It felt wonderful!♥ I like your meal ideas! ♥
ReplyDeleteI remember those days.
ReplyDeleteThe first two weeks of school starting up after a nice summer, I felt like I had the flu I was so exhausted.
Your self-care ideas sound so wise.
It is all about keeping it simple.
Keep resting!

I love the part about feeling God growing closer... a beautiful post, Christine... Peace... Soft, stillness... Yes...
ReplyDeleteRest is needed for the body to begin to heal itself. It is a good thing that you listen to your body and know when to slow down. Yes, it is in these quiet moments that we often find ourselves closer to God.
ReplyDeleteHi Dottie, thanks for stopping by my roasted tomato blog post and leaving a comment. I'm so happy that you checked out the Goop blog - it's really very interesting and so far I've found some delicious, simple yet elegant recipes from there. This blog post about At The Moment is so wonderful - I loved what you said about feeling closer to God the more you slow down - it's just so true, and so simple if you think about it. Ciao, bella!
ReplyDeleteEach of those spots look very inviting and restful. I hope you enjoy your much deserved rest in each of them. I wish I could get away with popcorn for dinner at my house but I'm pretty sure the hubby would wither away if I didn't prepare MEAT for him. He's such a carnivore.
ReplyDeleteA movie and dinner with a friend sounds wonderful. Enjoy it!
Your quiet places are so pretty. Thanks for the reminder to slow down, I get in such a rush and miss so much!
ReplyDeleteThanks Dottie! Love your beautiful restful linens. Can't wait to visit you for Tasha's birthday also.:)
ReplyDeleteSherry
Thank you so much for that reminder. I needed to hear it today. I need to take time to listen.
ReplyDeleteYes Sister I do and just one question, Can I come and do nothing with you in any of those comfy spots??????????????? I can't seem to follow my advice here. Hugs, Mollye
ReplyDeleteI think that you are on the right track! Great advice to slow down and enjoy the ride.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful resting places. My summer is drawing to a close as I finally head back to school. I've enjoyed each and every moment of just being and having the whole day before me to do what I please. Now it's back to reality! Best wishes for your Thursday, Tammy :)
ReplyDeletePopcorn for supper? .... Right on!!!
ReplyDeleteIsn't that one of the best-est things about being a "grown-up"?
Doing nothing refreshes and restores. Blessings to you in your slower pace.
ReplyDeleteOne of the best simple pleasures! Resting. Sadly, many people have no idea how to do that anymore. Your photos are so charming. I wanted to jump right in that bed!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for linking up today.
Popcorn for dinner...now that's my kind of supper!!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could climb right into that swing and admire your garden and chat over a cup of tea. I agree, times of rest are essential. And they help us to hear God more clearly.
ReplyDeleteDear sweet Dottie.....It is just fine to relax and rest after a day with the grands!! Mine wear me out too. (O:(O:
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Jo
I wish I could join you Dottie! Sounds like bliss...
ReplyDeleteBest wishes and happy Friday!
Natasha.
It is so wonderful to take care of yourself, I can just see all the happiness in this post!

First I would have a cup of coffee on your beautiful porch swing and then I would read my book in your comfy bed. Great photos.
